History of the Port Kembla Footy Club
The Port Kembla Australian Football Club was formed
in 1970 with four Junior teams (11's, 13's, 15's & 17's) taking part in the local competition. The Seniors
formed in 1975 with First Grade and Reserve Grade teams taking part. Port Kembla First Grade won the Grand
Final in their debut season.
Originally the team jumpers were modelled on the Collingwood
colours, then, in 1989, changed to the Port Adelaide style of the day, and finally, changed to Port Kembla's chosen
design in 1995, maintaining the colours of black and white and the "Blacks" logo.
In the 30 years that the club has been in existence it has
only missed playing finals football twice in First Grade and three times in Reserve Grade. Port have won the
Premiership flag four times. Their first was in their inaugural year (1975), then again in 1980, again in 1993
and the last Grand Final of last century (1999). Reserve Grade have picked up the flag on no fewer than 12 occasions,
including making it a double for Firsts and Reserves in 1993 and 1999. The Port Kembla Footy Club has been Club Champions
on 14 occasions throughout it's 30 year life.
As one of the most successful clubs in the Illawarra/South
Coast Australian Football League, Port Kembla "Blacks" have appeared in seven of the last eleven First Grade Grand
Finals, five of the last eleven Reserve Grade Grand Finals and have been Club Champions seven out of the last
eleven seasons.
